Bossypants

Today has been a pretty big pile of boring. I promised myself that this week I would work on a few specific things every day, most particularly cleaning our apartment and yoga. So far so good. Two things that I absolutely have to do every day are get ready and leave the apartment. Does getting the mail count? Because I walked, like, clear across the parking lot.

Today I woke up around 6:20 when my alarm went off after Casey's.
I laid in bed and read about 100 pages of Tina Fey's Bossypants.
I rolled out of bed and flipped down the sheets and covers to air out the bed.
(cracked.com told me to)
The yoga book came out of hiding.
So did the dyson vacuum.
The stove was pulled out and vacuumed behind.
So was the rolling chair at Casey's desk.
Dusting was absolutely necessary.
And the rag was so gross I had to shake it out and vacuum the area wherein it had been shaken.
Desperate Housewives brought in Nathan Fillion
(yes please).
I showered.
I put on make up, put a bobby pin in my hair, and got dressed.
Checked the mail and visited the office.
Ate a salt water taffy while in the office
(which had like 5 people in it, so I didn't even get to talk to Jennica really)
Texted my husband.
Folded ALL the clothes of mine that have been lying around the apartment
(minus the dirty ones now in the hamper)
Found my apron from Mimi's Cafe, I love the long serving aprons.
(only from the waist down though, not the frock ones)
Sat on the couch and realized that I hadn't eaten much beyond Triscuits and Easter candy.
Went to my car and pulled everything out of my glove box.
Dragged it all inside and threw a ton of crap out.
Finished Tina Fey's Bossypants.

Now, for the record, I have read 11 books this year. I'm pretty dang proud of myself (especially because my 2010 goal was to read 12 books and I read half of one). Reading a lot (this year) doesn't qualify me to be a critic, but as this is a new book and I know a lot of my friends have similar taste to mine, I will tell you what I think about Bossypants.

I love Tina Fey. She is a great comedian and it really comes through in her book. I spent about half of the time I was reading it giggling at her nuance and thinking how funny she can be. Honestly, if I had lived Tina Fey's life and had her experience, this is exactly what I would have written. Even in the same style! She makes a few references that are outdated for me, but I know when I'm 40, I will also be pretentious about what I know, especially around younger people who won't understand my jokes.

The thing is you have to know it's just a book to read. It's entertaining and passes the time just the way I wanted it to, but that's all it is. No real story, no climax, no real ending, it's just chunks of Tina Fey's life and what she's done and what she's learned and is still learning. I liked it, but if you're looking for action and romance and plot twists, this is not your book. If you want to read about someone who's pretty cool and beat her uncle in a game of Scrabble using the word "FARTING," this is the book for you.

I'll give it 4.5/5 stars, because it really is entertaining. Just know what you're getting into if you start reading it. It's like David Sedaris books, but more relatable.

In other news, I got the print I ordered in the mail today. :) Now I just gotta figure out how I want to frame it and hang it. I have another print to go with it, both are 8x10, and I want to frame a wedding picture or something either with them or along side them. Can't decide. I guess it all depends on how expensive the frames would be. We shall see!

At least the yoga I have figured out, since it's all laid out in front of me. I hate decisions.

  1. I'm glad I know about this book!! I saw it and was curious how it is, so now I know!! Unlike you, I have only read 3/4 books, (two separate ones that totaled that amount...haha) and I have at least 3 books lined up to read once I make the time for it...but I MAY have to skootch this book up on the list and read it sooner! Thanks for this cute post! I liked it!
