Life Goes On: June

I love June. It has always been my favorite for a number of reasons. My birthday, usually the end of a school year, the start of summer... this month brings back a lifetime of poolside memories, complete with opening presents. Who doesn't love opening presents?

Unfortunately, my grandfather Stephen Oveson passed away this June. I still love June, but this has been a rough one. We drove to Utah three weekends in a row. The first was Memorial Day weekend, the next weekend I returned to get Casey and we were able to be with my family the day that Papa died, and the third and final weekend was the funeral.

The viewing was on Casey's birthday; at the end of the night he apologetically announced, "I'm really sorry guys; next year I'll have my birthday somewhere else." I'm glad he's always able to lighten the mood. He keeps me in check.

Year in Review: 2012

Well, we survived the Apocalypse and had a fantastic Christmas, and to make up for all the times we're too busy to tell you what we're up to, here's a quick review of everything that happened (that I can remember) from this year--good and not so good.

January: At the turn of the New Year, we were living with my parents in Draper. I quit my job at Iggy's Sports Bar (in Salt Lake City) to devote more of my time to working at the Farm at Canyons (in Park City). We spent most of our free time running around with friends and trying to save rather than spend. We went to my first NBA game (Jimmer!). We also started a calling in Primary teaching the 6-year-olds.

February: I was reaccepted to BYU - Idaho! I managed to get Valentine's Day off to go out for some delicious Greek food with my handsome husband, which would have been a lot more fun if I wasn't on heavy pain killers for a nasty root canal. I'm surprised I remember the evening. Casey also finished watching Battlestar Galactica that month.

October is Over

I have a confession to make... I am a lazy, lazy person. I'm wearing pajama pants right now. It's 4:14 pm. In fairness, my jeans are all in the dryer.

All that aside, I owe you all a month or so of information. So here goes.

We're going into week 9 of the fall semester, meaning there are only 6 weeks to go, and I will be done with this crazy semester!

Nevermind...

Success

As I sit here thinking about the food I want to make and eat this evening, I can't help but feel like this week was a great success.

Note: success and stress can and do work together.

This week was a busy week of classes, homework, plasma, training, work, and exhaustion. I worked 12 hours at the Writing Center and 6 hours either working or training as a TA. I gave plasma, got a flat bike tire, baked potatoes in the crock pot, spent more hours on campus than I did at home (at least it felt that way), I packed really good lunches every day, ate nearly two full cups of granola, and walked up and down more stairs than I care to count.

I am just starting to recover, and it starts all over again tomorrow.

But you know what? I really like it.

Still Here!

The Walrath house has been an exciting place to be this summer seven-week break... We had the Ransoms stay overnight partway through their trip, we made some new friends in the ward, and we had the Cunninghams (of the Cory and Katy variety) stay a weekend on their way back to Provo from Seattle.

A Food Week

Last week was a great week in the Walrath home for FOOD.

Not to brag, but I had a ton of success in the kitchen. Including my first successful attempt at fruit leather (3rd time's a charm), my first homemade loaf of bread (like sandwich bread, not banana bread), and Casey even had great success in the realm of pasta.

Tuesday the burgers were to die for.

Mother's Day Weekend!

Here we are, another week passed, and a few more pictures to post.

I honestly don't remember what happened for a chunk of last week, because all the homework assignments just sort of start to blend together. I know there were smoothies, facebook updates, muffins, and a party. Fortunately, I have photographic evidence to remind me of exactly what went on.

By the pictures, hardly anything happened between Monday and Friday.

Monday we had dinner and then went mini-golfing for FHE and then got some delicious shakes at Sammy's. Casey went for the Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake Shake, I went with the Red Velvet Cupcake. Mmmm...

You're jealous, I know.

Week 3: Over.

I'm at that point in a semester (beginning of Week 4) where the idealist excitement of the first couple of weeks has worn off, and the first unit tests from week 3 are mostly behind me, and while I'm trying to get excited about the next units, I am absolutely exhausted.

It's a good thing I'm married this semester, because if I were in an apartment with 5 other girls up til all hours of the night, I would not have survived these first weeks.

The Walraths have Landed!

It has certainly been an eventful few days, Friday feels like it was ages ago.

Casey and I (with the help of friends and family!) loaded our U-Haul on Friday afternoon (only after Chels and I hit up the Bijou Market - if you ever have the chance you should go!) and had a nice party complete with pizza, peach lemonade, and even a couple of going-away presents (thanks guys!). I admit, I was surprised at how many of you made it out to say goodbye, even if it was just for a few minutes.

Phase the Next

My how I have neglected my post. (Ba-dum-CH!) Terrible pun, especially for a lead-in. I blame being married to my husband.

After much deliberation, I have decided that I need to start writing on our blog again, because while pontificating my thoughts in a different forum is fun, and I will of course continue, life in the Walrath family is about to make a change and I want to keep everybody updated on us.
