Steve Jobs: Genius (in more ways than one)

I can't believe what a lazy blogger I've been.

Since my last post, I have been incredibly busy, most especially at work! Yay! I work again! It's hard to find time for blogging and other extracurriculars because I really only work when Casey is at work, and as soon as he comes home we're always doing other things. It's funny how easy it is to just tune out the world whenever he's around.

funny thought

Choose an identity. That's what blogger tells you to do when you post a comment on someone's blog. You have to choose who you are! Isn't that silly? I know it makes sense, because every computer is different, some are in libraries and have a kajillion people use them, and others only ever have one or two users. But it's interesting that you choose. It could just say "confirm this is you" or "enter your information" or something. No, you choose your identity.

Is it cool or is it lame? I can't decide. Choose your identity.

the new me

You know, I've spent about the last week doing some inadvertent soul searching. You know, when some random topic starts gnawing at the back of your mind and before you know it your personal journal is full of a few self-discoveries you had no idea were coming.

If you've known me for a while (pretty much if you met me in 2007 or earlier) then you probably know that I used to be a very musical, very angry person. The music still holds, but not in the way it used to. I'm finally understanding that all the musical outlets I had were there because I needed them. Don't get me wrong, I still love to sing and even belt when I'm in the car by myself, and maybe go to the occasional karaoke night over at Wing Nutz, but I don't need to do those things anymore.

(Side note, did you know that the html tag for bolding is no longer just b? It's strong. It's kind of a pain to type out.)

A little less than a week ago I was pondering over my favorite song by Radiohead, (which is coincidentally the same for many, I know that already), Creep. Casey doesn't like that song at all, he thinks it's their worst, but that's an argument for another day. Anyway, the point I want to make is that the reason I found the song so comforting and musical to me (and still do) was the lyrics. The song isn't just about confusion, it's about feeling out of place and different. That song reminds me all the time that I am not the only person on earth who feels out of place, and that makes me feel like maybe I'm not out of place. I'm really just like everyone else, trying to find the best spot to fit in.

Now, anyone who has spent time with me from about the tail end of 2007 until now (particularly during the last 7 months since I married Casey) knows that I am not the person I used to be. I don't feel all that out of place or lost in the world (most of the time) and while I still enjoy a good powerful outlet type lyric (I want to break free!), it's less of an escape and more of a good retrospective on how much I've changed.

Even though I'm making a face, I'm happy, I promise. :)

I could enumerate the different things that have changed me between October 10, 2007 and today, but for now let it suffice that I love the way it's all working out for me. Not to say that it's perfect, because nothing is, but sometimes I feel a lot closer to a perfect life than I ever did.

a new beginning

I always hated that phrase. "New beginnings." What's wrong with the old beginnings? I'm a little older and slightly more mature now (but not by much), and I think I'm starting to understand it.

Basically, I'm addicted to writing things down. Not as much as I should be, but my personal goal is to keep better track of things. Especially since I got married three months and three days ago, I've been feeling the need to keep track of now. When is better than now? I'm young, I'm married, I'm happy, and I have just about everything I need! But I've been doing lots of ponderings lately and I want to share them, so I'm starting this blog. It may or may not be my 5th blog in my time through the blogosphere, but i wasn't married for the other ones, and therefore they are now null and void.

(also, I'm addicted to reading other people's blogs and I just kind of want one too)

So, basics. Hi! I'm Brooke. I may or may not know you already. Casey is my husband and he makes my life what it should be. It's impossible to stay angry or annoyed with Casey in the room. We got married on October 22, 2010 after a fairly strait-forward courtship of five fantastic months. Lots of people came, and it was wonderful. :)

This blog is for the purpose of my ponderings and life story. I've always kept a journal (since I was in like, kindergarten, but my entries were short and nonsensical) but I in addition to the lovely leather book I fill with nonsense, I want to share my life (especially because people always ask what I'm up to).

So, here goes!
